Anthony Reddy Associates were appointed by William Neville and Sons Construction Ltd. to prepare a Masterplan for their residential zoned lands at Cherrywood, Co. Dublin. This plan forms part of Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council's Area Action Plan for the Cherrywood/ Shankill area. The lands known as Cherrywood comprise 120-hectares of land located near to the southern edge of the county. Boundary approximately 10km from the City Centre and immediately to the west of Dun Laoghaire at the proposed junction of the M50 and N11 routes, at the foothills of the Dublin mountains. The preparation of an Action Plan for Cherrywood follows from the rezoning of the lands for higher density residential development in the 1999 County Development Plan in response to the pressing need for housing in the Dublin Area. This plan presents the first opportunity for a major area of Dublin to
be developed using the most up to date environmental policies and planning
guidelines. It was recognised that this type of environment could only be achieved by a design led process, one that focused on urban design objectives and the translation of those objectives into a clearly defined spatial structure based on the special features and unique character of the site. The objectives, expressed as guiding principles, together with the spatial structure constitute the urban design framework, which underlines the entire Action Plan. The Masterplan has evolved in consultation with the professionals acting for the adjoining landowners as well as Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.
